Hotel
Los Lagos feels less like a hotel and more like a large, living landscape. The territory stretches upward along the hillside, with paths, gardens, pools, and viewpoints layered one above another. You don’t stay in one place here — you move through it.
The first thing you notice is space. Wide green areas, open views, and the constant presence of vegetation. Walking the grounds takes time, and that feels intentional. Every path leads somewhere different: a pool, a garden, a quiet bench, or another view of the volcano.

There’s a lot of life here. During the day, birds move through the trees and butterflies stay close to the flowers. The gardens are full of plants and blooming spots, especially higher up on the property where everything feels greener and less busy.

The thermal pools are spread across the property and vary in temperature. Some feel more open and social, while others are tucked into greenery and stay quieter, especially in the evening. The warm water works best after long walks around the grounds, when you slow down and stop paying attention to time.

Beyond the thermal areas, there are regular swimming pools placed along the paths and gardens. They’re easy to come across while walking uphill or moving between sections of the hotel. During the day, these pools feel more active, with open views and space to relax between walks.

The water slides are set slightly apart from the quieter areas. They add movement and energy to the property, especially during daytime hours, without dominating the landscape. It’s a small but noticeable contrast to the slower rhythm found in the thermal pools and upper paths.

There’s also a small lake on the territory, surrounded by vegetation and walking paths. It doesn’t try to be a highlight — it just fits naturally into the landscape and adds another quiet stop along the way.

Los Lagos isn’t about one main attraction. It’s about moving through the space: warm water in the evening, long paths uphill, flowers along the trails, pools hidden in greenery, and small wildlife moments that happen when you slow down.

The higher you go, the more open the views get. Near the top of the property there’s a mirador with a clear view of Arenal Volcano. It’s one of the best places to stop early in the morning or just before sunset, when the light is softer and the grounds below feel far away.

There are horses kept on the hotel grounds, and guided rides are available along the surrounding trails. The routes move at a slow pace and pass through open areas and forest edges, making the ride feel more like a way to explore the land than an attraction.

One of the trails used for horseback riding starts directly on the property and leads into a quieter, greener section of the area. It’s a simple path, slightly uneven in places, and gives a good sense of the landscape beyond the main buildings.

I notice a green crested lizard sleeping on a branch. It doesn’t move at all, even when I get closer, completely still against the leaves.

At night, the grounds slow down. With a flashlight and a bit of patience, it’s possible to spot wild animals on the property. Red-eyed tree frogs often appear on leaves near warm pools, ponds, and along the paths. Once you start looking carefully, you notice how active the place becomes after dark.

I come across a veined tree frog resting on a wall near the garden at night. Its patterned skin stands out under the lights, and it stays in place long enough to get a closer look.

A blue morpho butterfly passes through the garden briefly. Its bright blue wings are visible only in flight before it disappears back into the trees.

Los Lagos is less about a single experience and more about everything in between — walking uphill, warm water after sunset, flowers along the paths, and the chance encounters that happen when you take your time.
